The Lafayette Men’s Lacrosse team failed to upset the No.15 ranked Bucknell Bison in a cold and snowy game last Saturday at Fisher Stadium.

Though Bucknell only led 7-5 after three quarters, the Bison capitalized on a strong fourth quarter, beating Lafayette 13-6.
With the loss, the Leopards are now 0-2 in the Patriot League and 2-6 overall. Bucknell sits atop league standings with a 2-0 conference record.
Freshman Kevin Wanke led Lafayette, scoring two goals. Lafayette’s leading scorer on the season, Sonny Round ‘15, tallied one goal and two assists for the game.
Junior standout Todd Heritage led Bucknell with five goals, bringing his season total to 18. Heritage is ranked fourth in the league in goals per game and first in the league in game-winning goals.
Freshman Mac Gallagher scored his first collegiate goal less than two minutes into the game, but an ensuing 4-1 run by Bucknell put Lafayette down 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
The Leopards traded goals with Bucknell through the second and third quarters. However, the Bison broke the game open with a six-goal fourth quarter on 15 shots.
“There were a lot of positive things to take away from Saturday,” Goalie Jake Hyatt ‘14 said. “We’ve always been in the game going into the fourth quarter, but for some reason we fall apart late in the game. Hopefully, we can change that.”
Lafayette will travel to West Point, NY Saturday to take on Army. Army is 4-3 on the season, but they are coming off a loss to No. 15 Lehigh last Saturday. Hyatt says keys to a victory against Army will be getting off to a good start, being quicker in transition and winning the ground ball battle.
The team will be focusing on attackman Garrett Thul ‘13, who Hyatt said, “is a very talented and strong lacrosse player who has always given us trouble.”
But Hyatt is confident about the Leopards’ chances Saturday.
“Our team doesn’t revolve around one or two players,” he said. “We win as a team and lose as a team. If we play Lafayette lacrosse and believe in our system, I feel confident we’ll come away with the victory next Saturday.”
Tomorrow’s game is scheduled to begin at noon at Michie Stadium. You can catch it online via Patriot League All Access.
