Since Monday night, Nicholas Albano' 09, this year's recipient of the George Wharton Pepper Prize, said he has been in a state of shock. Just minutes after Dean Hannah Stewart-Gambino informed him he was selected as the student who best represents the Lafayette ideal, he logged on to his email and discovered he had been accepted at New York University Medical School.
Economics professors at Lafayette are increasingly emphasizing the global economic crisis in their classes, but have not altered what they teach about economic principles. "The curriculum itself is flexible enough to allow us to incorporate the crises and any other "real world" events into our classes", said Economics and Business Department Head Susan Averett.
Four Lafayette students have been inducted into the national chapter of Omega Psi Phi, a historically black fraternity, but their status and the status of their organization at Lafayette is uncertain. The students have attended meetings in New York and Philadelphia and are on the national roster, but do not yet have the eight members they need to qualify for fraternity status at Lafayette.
Public Safety is currently trying to link a student to two thefts that occurred this semester.. The link was made on April 24 in response to a theft in the Skillman Library that was reported on April 21 and a second theft in the Acopian Engineering Center that was reported on April 24.
Reverend Walter Everett spoke about the need for restorative justice over retributive justice on Tuesday for the Office of Religious Life's final brown bag of the semester. Everett used personal experience on reconciliation with the murderer of his son to expand on this topic.
A red maple tree has been planted in the courtyard behind Hogg Hall in memory of Jeremy Saxe. The tree and plaque will be dedicated to him this Sunday at 4 p.m. Saxe's family will be in attendance at the dedication.
