President Barack Obama took office January 20, 2009, promising students an affordable, competitive education. A year later, the country is debating whether his promise of "Change We Can Believe In" has been fulfilled. Obama set goals for his administration when he first took office, including preparing children for higher education starting at a young age.
On February 1, Lafayette College announced that Shirley M. Ramirez, Vice President for Institutional Planning and Community Engagement, would be leaving mid-semester. Ramirez will be taking time off for personal reasons and will then return to Middlebury College as Dean of the College and Chief Diversity Officer in July 2010.

The Leopards men's basketball team fell short against the defending Patriot League Champion American Eagles on Saturday, losing 76-66 on their home court in front of a packed crowd at the Kirby Sports Center. Even though the Eagles lost all five starters from last year's squad, they were still able to extend their winning streak over Lafayette to 11.
